How Is Dry Eye Diagnosed?
At your first visit, Dr. Jaime Gossan will examine your eyes to evaluate your lids, glands and ocular surface to identify your symptoms and determine a possible cause. Be prepared with information such as time of onset of symptoms, what treatments you've tried in the past, and lifestyle factors that may contribute to your symptoms, such as, time spent looking at screens, current medications, and environmental factors.
First, Dr. Gossan will use a Meibographer to measure the quality and function of your eyelid glands. She will test your tear film quantity and quality, evaluate your eyelids, lashes, and ocular surface for signs related to dry eye inflammation.
What We Do
Here are some of the services we offer:
- Intense Pulsed Light - IPL uses a range of of wavelengths of light energy to break down blood vessels that leak inflammatory mediators related to dry eye. IPL also helps to promote gland secretion to improve tear film quality. IPL has an added advantage of sunspot removal and improvement of wrinkles and pore size in surrounding skin.
- Thermal Expression of Glands - This treatment seeks to unblock the Meibomian glands to help alleviate your dry eye symptoms. Our device tightens skin and heats up eyelid structures to allow for expression of clogged eyelid glands. Improved lid gland function allows for the proper proportion of oil in the tear film to reduce evaporation of the tears.
- Platelet Rich Plasma Eye Drops - Platelet Rich Plasma Eye Drops will be offered to improve regeneration of damaged corneal tissue and decrease inflammatory mediators on the ocular surface of dry eye patients. Blood will be taken from the patient and the plasma is separated and deposited in sterile saline eye drops. A patient's plasma has healing elements that match specifically with their body. The drops do not contain preservatives, chemicals, or additives like seen in artificial tears.
- Eye Lid Exfoliation - Zocular Eyelid System Treatment (ZEST) is an okra based solution that deep cleans and exfoliates the lids and lashes to improve the biofilm and tear film stability related to dry eye, demodex infection and blepharitis.
